The Leadership Team of Kensington and Chelsea Council has decided to award the Carnival grant for the next three years to the Carnival Village Trust, following the unanimous recommendation of the independent Carnival Grant Advisory Panel.
The grant will help CVT organise the internationally recognised event that is Europe’s largest street celebration.
The panel noted the successful Carnival earlier this year, the first one organised by Notting Hill Carnival Ltd, part of CVT. They also cited the CVT’s commitment to improving Carnival year-on-year and increasing the environmental sustainability of the event in their decision.
Cllr Gerard Hargreaves, Lead Member Communities and Culture, Kensington and Chelsea Council, said:
“I am pleased the council has followed the unanimous decision of the Carnival Grant Advisory Panel and awarded the Carnival grant for the next three years to the Carnival Village Trust.
“I think the panel recognised that this year’s Carnival was a spectacular, fun and well organised event - I’m sure Carnival over the years ahead will build on this success.
“Carnival is owned and organised by the community, we’re proud we can support such a globally recognised, and locally popular, street celebration.“
