229 the Venue

Live venue featuring 2 halls staging touring indie and rock bands, plus club nights and comedy will host the 2018 Get Mad Fest on the 25th of August which is also the Saturday before the 2018 Notting Hill Carnival.

At the time of this writing this article Get Mad Entertainment has already secured a killer line-up of well known acts, however, for the benefit of those who may not have encountered these superstars prior to this article (shame on you!) we’ll provide you with some background information so you know what to expect:

A San Juan, Trinidad native, Aaron ‘Voice’ St. Louis, shot to fame in Trinidad and Tobago when he unleashed a song called, ‘Cheers To Life’ in 2016.  It certainly became the anthem of Carnival and earned him the Soca Monarch title- making him the youngest entertainer to ever win the title.

Since that major accomplishment, the 24- year -old has become one of the most liked young acts across the Caribbean. He has succesfully defended his place as International Soca Monarch for 3 years in a row (See below for his 2017 winnning perfomance) and his name has been seen in many places across the world in Fetes and Carnivals. The excitement surrounding his name and performance, is only expected to increase.

The St Lucian sensation Lashley winter AKA Motto is an Athlete in the Barton Mens Cross Country track and field programs certainly explains the energy that this artists brings to the stage during each performance. A Communications Major His favorite movie is Blood Diamond, favourite tv show is Sponge Bob, and favourite food is dumplings.

Motto has been a major force in the creation, promotion and proliferation of the Dennery Segment sound, a new style of Music that started gaining traction in 2015 with roots in the West African Angolan Music genre of Kuduro, St Lucian Percussion and Creole Zouk a popular Music genre of the French Caribbean Islands.

Originally named Lucian Kuduro the genre emphasise essential minimalism and is light on melody and heavy on it’s percussion, reminiscent of the live music heard during a Lapo Kabwit session that can still be heard today on many of the Leeward Islands. In order to extend it’s reach beyond St Lucia and towards the mainstream

Similar to many new Music Genre’s there was a lot of resistance to the new sound, at times it was banned from the Airwaves in St Lucia, however it's local and worldwide reception has firmly entrenched it as a Music Genre that looks set to endure the test of time.

Winter has said that he would like to visit the Bahamas, Martinique and Peru, and he plans to become a business owner after college, his Motto is "Be something or die nothing".

--DJ Puffy--

Andre “Puffy" Parris holds the coveted title of RedBull Thre3style World Champion 2016. From wild-card entrant to subsequently emerging as the most skillful DJ of his era, this gifted turntablist and trailblazer have excelled by creating a unique Caribbean-EDM sound that captivates his thousand-fold audiences.

Born on November 20, 1991, to a family of talented musicians, it was certainly inevitable that bars and beats would course through his veins. What began as a teenage obsession fueled by raw talent would quickly develop into a fruitful career and lasting passion following his early discovery by Dream Real Projects’ CEO and visionary, Matthew “Fewwture" Ashby in 2009.

His performances have also been received by an elite whos-who crowd which includes his compatriot Rihanna where he most recently performed for at the Fenty X Puma pop-up show in New York City and other prominent A-list celebrities such as Amber Rose, J.Cole, Jeremih and the cast of Oxygen’s Bad Girl’s Club. He has also opened for a select list of international performers, sharing the stage with Chase and Status, the UK music-producing duo; Omarion; Rick Ross and Hed Kandi deejays, Andi Norman and Krystalroxx.

However, his biggest spotlight moment on the stage was at the seventh world finals of the RedBull Three3style World Championship in Santiago, Chile on December 17, 2016, where his eclectic musical palette, impressive skills repertoire and compelling stage presence separated him from his competitors and earned the winning vote from world-class masters Nu-Mark, Scratch Bastid, Craze, Z-Trip and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

If you haven’t listened to him play then watch this to see (and hear) what you can expect at the Get Mad Fest!
