Antigua and Barbuda was well-represented in North America over the weekend, as the Roy Cape All Stars made its first stop on its highly-anticipated Season Of Brass Global Tour at the Return Fete in Canada on Friday night.
The world-renowned brass band, now in its 37th year of existence, gave its first performance on the international tour following the Trinidad Carnival 2017 Season, with an energetic performance in the heart of Toronto.
Songstress Tanzania “Tizzy” Sebastian took to the stage with great energy and thunderous applause from the audience. Decked in a sizzling two-piece ensemble, green bomber jacket and signature Antigua flag in tow, Tizzy surely set the stage on fire with her incredible vocals and sultry dance moves to her hits such as “Pumping Iron” and “Expose”.
Already a staple with the Roy Cape All Stars, Soca Superstar Ricardo Drue left fans at the Rebel venue in a frenzy with renditions of his 2017 hits “I.D. (Stamp Yuh Name), “Iron” and “Rum Again” – the latter of which he performed alongside King Bubba FM of Barbados.
Both artistes make up a part of the current vocal frontline for the Roy Cape All Stars, which also includes Blaxx of Trinidad and Tobago and Teddyson John of St. Lucia.
According to the Music Director of the band, Carlysle “Juiceman” Roberts, Tizzy and Drue bring world-class quality to the Roy Cape All Stars international tour. “For the Season of Brass, the band intends to showcase Soca with a difference, by bringing together the best, most talented Caribbean artistes alongside the best musicians the region has to offer,” he explained. “Including artistes like Tizzy and Drue in the lineup has always been Pappy’s (Dr. Roy Cape) vision for this band – making it a Caribbean family, always a force to be reckoned with.”
Hosted by world-renowned Dr. Jay de Soca Prince, the Return Fete was a sold-out event that the diaspora in Toronto looks forward to annually. “Return Fete resets a new ‘year’ for Soca music in the City of Toronto,” shares Dr. Jay. ” For 22 years, it’s been my opportunity to bring the biggest and brightest from Trinidad Carnival like Ricardo Drue and Tizzy, with the music that will carry us forward towards Toronto Carnival aka Caribana.”
Roy Cape All Stars will head to Jamaica next for a series of performances for the “Season of Brass” Global Tour, as a part of that island’s annual Carnival celebrations in April.
