About the Artist:

Cocoa Nuraya, born Magdalene Monrose, starting singing from an early age. Having always been a shy child when it came to singing, she began her journey as a member of various choir groups including her then school choir Revelations, to help build her confidence in singing in front of others. It is here her love for gospel music grew through inspirations such as Kirk Franklin, Tamara Mann and Le'Andria Johnson.

In 2009 she was approached by a local band in Hackney, East London. They were named '2ndPhase', with them she performed at various local pubs and events such as Manchester Carnival. It was through performing with them her love for Reggae, Soca and her island grew. Artists like Etana, Patrice Roberts and Destra inspire her.

As her confidence grew so did her talent. In 2012 she recorded her first Soca single 'superwoman' produced Riddim Up Studios on the '1 step riddim'. It was then she discovered her versatility and Cocoa Nuraya was born.

In 2013 she went on to recorded her 1st collaboration titled 'to the left' produced by Riddim Up Studios on the 'Palm Tree riddim'. This was done with fellow St Lucian artist/producer Jonas Keeves and Romel 'Cold Chizzle' Marquis.

In 2014 she was approached  by St Lucian artist and producer Lashley 'Motto' Winters (Fox Productions) to feature on the 'Tropics riddim. It is here she went on the record a St Lucian Groovy Soca 'whine on you'.

This year, 2015 she recorded her St Lucia Soca track 'Paradise' produced by Cold Chizzle (Militant Musik). She later went on to fulfil her dream of recording her first music video 'paradise' on the island of her parents birthplace, sweet St. Lisi. In this video she aims to show the world why home, St Lucia is paradise.

Cocoa wants people to hear, feel and appreciate her music. She wants the world to see that no matter how SMALL the island has talent.  She says "If I can try open doors for my fellow lucians, why not!"
