For 35 year old soca lover Shona Muraldo-Parks, the sky is definitely not the limit – as she reaches for the stars in more ways than one. Descended from a Jamaican father and Trinidadian / Grenadian mother, and hailing from Hackney, East London, the busy flight attendant is preparing to win the crown of Ms Galaxy UK at the final next March.
Shona’s pageant career began in 2011, when she represented Flanagan Town in the Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK contest, thinking it would be a great way to learn more about her Trinidadian background. Although she did not win on that occasion, Shona was awarded the ‘Miss Elegance’ and ‘Miss Carivog’ titles. In 2012, Shona again represented Trinidad & Tobago, at Miss Commonwealth International, this time proudly winning the title.
Miss Galaxy is a well-established, international pageant and, if she wins the crown, Shona will go on to represent the UK at the international final in the USA the following summer. Leading up to the event, Shona will be doing a skydive, amongst other things, to raise money for the pageant’s official charity, Christie and Sunshine Foundation. There is also a charity soca event called 312 Soca scheduled for Friday 17 January 2020 at Bar 512. Soca News wishes Shona all the best at the upcoming pageant, and with her hard work promoting Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean.
